After graduating with a degree in K-12 Art Education and working with many kids with autism I did something completely unrelated and became a wedding photographer. Don't ask. The economy crashed in 2008 and nobody knew what was going on. I've been a wedding photographer for the last decade and have loved every minute of building a business. Apparently, I loved it so much I ended up building over 8 businesses within that time.
Today I'm still a wedding photographer. I specialize in photographing inclusive weddings for alternative people. Wedding photography isn't my main time-suck. In the off season I teach third grade in a rural mountain area. I also have a deep passion for helping creative entrepreneurs build diverse and inclusive businesses. If that isn't enough, I own a beekeeping business as well. Thanks to today's modern-day ability to automate so many processes in business and mundane daily tasks, I still have plenty of time to hang out with my son, Howie, and my husband, Nick. During Summers we spend our time beekeeping, gardening, and drinking wine on the patio.
HOW I ROCK MY WEIRD
I'm autistic. If Aspergers was still a term, that's what would be used to describe where I'm at on the spectrum.
Collecting unicorn things and bee things! Just collecting things in general.
I believe home decor doesn't need to look like Joanna Gaines did it. I have a Lord of the Rings themed living room and a muppets themed bathroom.
I have three Roombas and a robot that weeds my garden. I love anytime I can get something that automates business online, or anything in daily life.
The TV show Catfish is a guilty pleasure. I think the autistic in me loves puzzling over the social aspects.
I make my class call me "Queen Bee." Mrs. Swails is also fine (albeit way more boring).
My Enneagram Type is a #1. Principled, Purposeful, Self-Controlled, and Perfectionistic.
I believe we only live life once, and thats why we should wear costumes as often as possible.
I rock it with Wine. Wine is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
"LOVE YOURSELF LIKE IT'S YOUR JOB."
